Here is our last email from Elder Rice as a missionary in Argentina. It's hard to believe his mission will soon be over and that he will be back home again. How we have enjoyed sharing in his mission experience. It has been a blessing to us all!

Family,
First of all, it's not necessary to invite everyone on facebook to my homecoming. We don't want a bunch of floaters. We know they all come for the food and not for the message or the missionary. We've all been there before, but I guess what's done is done. (Sorry Gav...it was the best way to let people who want to come know.) Oh, and mom, happy stinkin' birthday on the second. I hate forgetting to do the whole 'wish them a happy birthday the week before' because of the internet. I'm sorry, but sounds like Big D was successful this year in his gifting. Tooshay pops. I bet your clubs are nicer than mine now. But that can change right? Let's do some updating when I get back. haha!

I can't believe this is my last week. It really is disgusting! I would have been more happy to go home like a year out, but now it's hard. It sucks leaving this area. Especially because this week I took a spiritual kick to the gut. John went to turn in his papers to get married on Saturday and they said they have the date to get married on the 17th and to bring back the papers on the 10th. That was not what we were told. I have it all written down in my agenda. ..the dates, what we needed to bring and when and everything. We specifically asked for the 10th or before. Ha! It's such a disappointment. I really wanted to be there for their baptism. They've come to church the last 6 Sundays. I can't believe it still! It still hasn't hit me that I'm leaving. I need to start taking more pictures. I'm going to take pictures with everyone, print them off and when I get home, I'll send them back with stuff written on the back. That's on my to do list. I'll just send them to my comp Elder Torbenson. That's a must do!

This Sunday we talked about eternal marriage and temple sealings. It was a great class and Micaela who is getting baptized this Saturday still was there and loved it. She and her husband who's a member got married this year. She's awesome. She works for the police like CIA style. I think the thing I love most about her is that she is just normal. Normal doesn't come easy sometimes. But they're awesome people and want to get sealed after a year of her being a member. I would more than love to see that and the sealing of Jesus and his family. I've met so many great people here in this ward. We'll have to come back in the future and visit them. We can go as a big family and visit the west side too, even though we know that the south is so much better!

We have a bunch of members wanting to feed us here for my last week. It's been awesome. They've been canceling appointments with other people so that they can feed us. On Wednesday the brother and sister in law of Micaela, Fabian and Gisela are giving us an asado. My last one! It'll be great. I'm having them sign a little book I bought for them to write stuff.

I got my Argentina documents today. I'm with E. Ingram in Buenos Aires. We had to go to Adrogue to search for them. We're going to get some stuff for the families. I just don't know what...I was thinking of Alpargatas. They're cool, comfy Argentina kicks like slippers but for everyday wear. They're cheap, like 15 pesos. Oh, and mom...do you like mate? (No mi hijo no me gusta)!...and have you written my talk yet?! (You need to write mine now Gav! My job in that area is now finished!) Just kidding. I may be selling those Eccos you sent me to E. Harris. They were too big and I need some money cause I owe the offices like 300 pesos. Even though the system went down and says that I have zero debt, it's just the honor code. I know that I owe that money. I lost a cell phone and bought Bibles for people so I spent my emergency fund a long, long time ago.

Anyway, I love you guys and will be seeing you all in a week! Wow, that is so weird! I can't fathom it. I hope you're happy to see me...I know Venna is! (Yes I am...I've been your most faithful letter/email writer and package sender...no te olivdes eso Che')

Hey Family,
Wow thanks for the pics! That's great that you guys played golf with the Daniels. The course looks amazing. I can't wait to tear that up when I get back. We'll have to make sure to bring a bunch of sand for all my divots though that I'll be making in that thing. Wow, but really, it looks good.

So, it sounds like you called SLC, or emailed or something. (We called the travel office due to insufficient knowledge of whether you are extending or not...made for a long week without knowing Elder Rice. ) I shouldn't have mentioned anything because it turns out that I can't. Elder Ingram and I really wanted to but it turns out that there are a ton of missionaries coming in the next transfer so they don't need us. (Can I just say...good news for us, not so good news for you?)

I want to have good noche de hogares (family nights) with the whole family when I get back. Like with fun stuff yes, but spiritual stuff as well. I want to share my testimony with everyone. (Did I mention how great missions are in a young persons life?!) I'm excited to spend time with you. Missions help you realize how amazing your parents actually really are. (Tears of joy here Gav...they also help reaffirm a parents love for their kids.) Mom, I'm terrible with English now. It just doesn't leave me good. (haha...so I noticed...leave me good Gav?) Like I can speak fine, I talk with my comp in English all the time, but like with church stuff...(don't worry, it will come back! Just don't lose your Espanol though! I really need it in my missionary calling right now and I'm so rusty after 30 years!)

I love my family and this ward! I'm so excited to work hard these last two weeks. (I can't believe it's finally almost the end Gav!) We have to make sure that John and Selinas marriage goes through so that they can get baptized next week. As well as Micaela. She's so awesome. It will be a great baptism to have. She's cool. She like's Coldplay a lot. Her husbands a stud as well. His name is David. It would be so great to see them get sealed in the Temple in a year.

Today was fun. We had a zone activity and played a lot of soccer and other games. We were supposed to go out to some island for it but just like always, too many showed up late and we missed the boat. So, we went to the church. It was fun though. We also had an asado (bbq).

This last week I was super sick. I had the gripe! (flu) I had a fever, headache and stomachache and was in my bed for like 48 hours. It was a bummer. I hate going from cold to hot in like 2 seconds with the weather. Things are going well though and we're working hard and are happy. I hope you all are too. I appreciate all you do for me. I hope you're having family home evening. If not, start! I can't wait for that when I get back. I love you all and hope you have a great week.

Sit down and take a load off Elder Rice

Jon and Selina are getting married! We went with John this week to take out a turn. They can be married Sept. 10th and baptized on the 11th! I'm so happy! It's amazing. I don't know if you've noticed but I've been really happy and really enjoying the mission and don't feel ready to come home. (Oh, oh...yes, I have noticed)! We have so many great things going on in my area. I know it's late in the game but if you get a call from the President, don't be scared because I've asked to extend with Elder Ingram! We want to really bad. I'm sure you can manage a month longer without me. I'm not that great! (That's for me to decide Gav and my heart just skipped a beat)! I just thought I'd give you the heads up. I feel really good about it. It came so clear to me like I needed to do this when I was teaching a lesson to a family who wants to get married. The whole time I was just like...wow...I need to extend. It's a possibility and hopefully it will all work out. I obviously need your support so you have to be okay with it as well. (With a heart like this, how could I say no Gav!) President said he has to make some phone calls and will let us know when he gets the time to do so. So, that's the news on the street! (That's quite the shocking news E. GP Rice!)

We had 10 investigators in Church yesterday. We found a 22 year old girl from Peru Saturday night. Her name is Veronica and she already attended church in church clothes and participated and loved it! Yesterday we found this guy name Miguel who's parents were members and they even had temple recommends. He wants what they had because they were so happy. We took out a fecha with him the same day, yesterday for the 11th of September. Oh it's amazing! So many blessings in such little time. I feel so rushed and worried to get it all done. I've never felt crunched for time like I do right now. If you're de acuerdo (okay with) me extending, pray for me that I can. That things will work out. It would be a major disappointment. I thought the pres. could make these decision but it turns out the big dawgs, bigger ones than the mission pres. has to make the call. I really like President Stapley. He's a great man. Defineately different than Pres. Asay but I like his confidence and willingness to help us out. He's going to do great here. We found a guy last night doing our last contact, Andres' aka Andy who is 19 from Ecuador. He's here studying. He's amazing! We were so pumped getting back to the pench last night. We had a great week. My comps a stud. He's so willing to work hard. He's just new and doesn't know how to yet but he's really teachable and ready to learn. I'm here with Elder Ingram in Lomas cause we came to pick up my Argentine documents so I can have them as a souvenir. It turns out though that you have to bring a pic with you. They were closing when we got here so I have to come back up here before transfers or I won't get them. I really want them. It was a a bummer! But yeah, if we extend, we are going to work in my area and live with the elders from Villa Elvira cause they are in our area in a bigger pench. Ours is teeny, tiny. I really hope to. I miss you all and can't wait to see you, but I can wait another month... :)

I've wanted to baptize a family my whole mission, and finally, at the end it has been made possible. I can't wait to get them married and baptized. It's going to be so incredible! (Only wish I could be there to witness Gav. Keep up the good work!)

P.S. are we going golfing my first day back? (It depends if it's still warm when you decide to come home :)

P.S.S. a massage would be sweet like a professional one. I've never had one before. (You've earned that treat Gav. We'll see what we can do!)

P.S.S.S. I was laughing out loud the other day thinking of Daris saying "shiza" when he hits a bad shot in golf. (Some things never change...only now, he's trying to learn Espanol :)

Se Bautizo' Walter!

Hey Family of mine. First of all, I keep forgetting to ask...is there anything you want me to purchase for you while I am here in Argentina? Because I'm a guy and guys don't have good ideas with things like that to bring back. So if you want something, let me know. (Just you Gav...that's all I need!) I'm sending a bunch of pics. Some are from when E. Holladay was giving his goodbyes and from Kevin's baptism and also Walter's baptism this last weekend. This week we had a good week. We baptized and had 8 in Church. We're hoping to baptize 3 more in a family named Falcon'. The guy is cool. He looks like he's from Russia. They have been reactivated and have 3 kids ages 15, 13, and 9 who haven't been baptized. We are baptizing John and his wife and Micaela on September 11th so we're going to talk with them this week about it. It would be pretty rad to end the mission with 6 baptisms. I like those kids a lot. They're awesome.

We went with John to get a turn to get his marriage license. His passport had expired though so we have to go back this week and take different documents. They will get married though and baptized this transfer. Pray for them so they'll be able to get a turn to get married before the 11th. I'd die if I didn't get to see them baptized. We're working hard and seeing the blessings from it. I've been using the excuse of me going home to get investigators to do stuff, as well as the members. I have a lot committed to do stuff they've never done or haven't done in a long time, like go to church at least once before I leave. I'm excited for the rest of this transfer. I really hope we can get all the things done that we want to get done. Walter's baptism went really well. My comp baptized him. It was cool. He's a stud. He was excited and pretty nervous especially because the pants and shirt were like 5 sizes too big. Haha.

Today is fariado (holiday) which means Argentina has no public transportation. It makes for a long P-day waiting and waiting for colectivos (busses). We came out early to La Plata because we're going to play soccer again and don't want to get there late. We play every week. haha...it's awesome. I love it! There's a chick sitting here next to me webcaming some guy and she's talking so fast in German or French. It's kinda cool. I like it. Well, enjoy the sun cause it's cold and ugly here...and enjoy the pics. I'd like to see pics of you guys though so feel free to send. I know I'll see you in a month but it just doesn't feel like it.

Hey Family,
Sounds like Cam's had some back luck lately, but I see we have some other good news in the family. So, I speak about albedrio (agency) for my homecoming talk huh?! That's cool. I like that. It'll be fun! (He actually doesn't mind speaking in church?...Another mission miracle)!

So, this week went okay. Yesterday was kind of a bummer, but we're baptizing this week and getting John and Selina married so that they can get baptized the Saturday before I leave the mission. We will also be baptizing Micaela, a member's wife. I'd be so content with those baptisms if we can get everything worked out like we want to. There's so many other people we're working with, but they're not progressing as quick as the others. It's frustrating, but we have to be patient because they are progressing and have the desires to progress even more. My comp is pretty cool. He's a way nice guy from Wisconsin. He always beats me in UNO though. He loves the mission and the work. He's always happy and willing to do whatever, so that's nice. We've just got to work on his Spanish so that he can be more effective. He has the drive though.

Today we played soccer. It was fun. We play like every P-Day. I hope that the guys at home that are planning on missions will do what they're called to do. They'll learn more in two years of life than they can learn the rest of their lives. Sounds like things are going well on the home front. I miss you guys and am looking forward to a warm welcoming, but for now I gotta work!

Hey Family,
I'm with a new comp. Elder Torbenson. I'm his second comp. He's from Wisconsin. He's a pretty cool kid. It should be great! If not, it's only for 6 weeks haha! He likes to play sports though so that's nice. I liked E. Holladay a lot. We had a really good two transfers and learned a lot and worked hard. We've got a lot of great investigators. We had 6 in Sacrament meeting and like hardly anyone else came. I'm sorry I don't have the pics from Kevin's baptism, I switched out my cards. Q macana. I'll have to send them next week. We had a good week though. We took out 2 fechas and will be baptizing them both this transfer. It's going to be awesome. One is a police woman who is married. Her husband is a member but has been inactive. They're starting to both come to church. He works on Sundays though and only gets one Sunday off a month. Her name is Micaela and the other one we're baptizing is Walter from the Ramos family who we are reactivating. We have so many more and should be getting people married. Jon and Selina are going to get married. We're working with them. He's the one that got shot twice and that's why I have pics of me in the hospital. His femur bone has a nail in the center. It's so long...I saw it on the X-ray. So, things are great. We're going to head back to the area. I love you, have a great week.

Hey Mom,
So we baptized Kevin last week. It was awesome! We had 13 in church to see it. It was amazing, even with the rain and all. Kevin is such a stud. He came with us to district meeting on Tuesday and went out with us yesterday morning. He teaches so well. He even wanted to stop and talk with people in the street. He HAS to be a missionary one day. He'd make such a good one. He has such a strong testimony. His family didn't want him to get baptized and tried to talk him out of it the night before. But, I got to baptize him. He's awesome! I love the kid! This week we've taken out two baptismal fechas so next transfer I'll get to see at least two more baptisms. We have an investigator who is married to a member and wants to get baptized. I love my life! It's going to be awesome. We have others that are ready too. It's just so hard because of marriages and divorces and stuff, but we are doing really well with the work and it feels so good to have success and see the fruits of it. There's a bunch of stuff I wrote down to tell you, but I left my agenda in some guys house that we found last week. I leave it everywhere! I'm retarded...I lose everything (Some things haven't changed I guess. That's OK, you're still cute!)

I've got your package here with me!!! I did intercombios with Ensenada and those Elder's had it in their pench because they went to the offices and picked it up for me. Thank you so much! I will enjoy that the last little bit of my mission. I can't believe I'm almost on my last transfer. (Me either Gav)! I get excited every once in awhile, but sometimes I feel pressured like I have so much to do in the little time I have left. But, I think we're headed in the right direction.

It's raining so hard right now I love it! It's been pretty cold and rainy the last couple weeks. Mud with bikes complicates things but it's ok. At the end of the day, it's worth it. We have so many good investigators. We had six lessons with a member in one day this week. We've done two divisions with members and are really working hard. We have so many citas (appointments) and not enough time for all the people we are teaching. It's a good feeling but a little overwhelming at times.

Today we threw flour, rice and eggs on E. Johnson for his birthday. I'll send pics.

Hey Family,
So, we just got back from playing soccer and a bunch of missionaries got robbed. They took a bunch of wallets and stuff from us. Luckily, nothing of mine was taken. I'm sick that that happens so much. Some missionaries lost around 200 pesos. Luckily everyone had their cameras with them. Anyways, soccer was fun, even though I'm having lower back pain again.

Next week we are going to be baptizing Kevin which I am so excited about. He's such a stud! It's been raining so much here that the streets are just full of water. We come home soaked riding the bikes. We had only one investigator in Church, which was Kevin, when we thought we'd have about 13. We had a lot of people committed, but what are you gonna do?! When it rains, everyone just stays in. Makes it tough for the work because they think that if they go outside they're going to melt or something!

We've had some neat experiences with Kevin. He was super down on himself. Poor kid, just dwells on his past and can't look forward to the future. He just wants to fix so many things which he's already repented for and is ready to get baptized. It's just hard for him now knowing the Gospel. We had a really good lesson with him and after, I gave him a blessing of comfort. He said it really helped him. He's been super awesome this week. He had a long wait for his baptism because he wanted to be ready for it. We knew Satan was going to work on him, which he did, but he's been overcoming everything. He's going to be one of my favorite baptisms. I love his conversion story and being here to see it all. There's nothing better than seeing someone accept the Gospel right in front of your eyes and the changes it makes. It's like a change of attitude towards everything. He wants others to feel as he does. He was wondering how to do it. It's awesome to see how when we feel the fruits of repentance how we want others to feel as good as we do. We read in Alma 29:1-3 I think, or maybe 28, where he says he wants to shout out through a trumpet and shake the earth with his voice and cry repentance, but then he just realizes that he's just a man and someone who sins in his desires. The whole chapter is good. I had to give a talk on Sunday. I mentioned how in the Michael Jackson song, "Man in the Mirror"...how it says if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make the change. We were doing contacts the day before and me and E. Johnson heard that song and we were like..."yeah, that's true...I'm going to use that in my talk."

So, things are going well. We have transfers in two weeks. It's so weird to see how fast the time is going. I'm excited but at the same time, not so much. I feel like I have a lot more to do before I go home.

Sounds like Jill is into eating horse...it's actually way good though. (Oh my Gavin...coming from the pickiest eater in the world!!!) I thought it was weird too when I first got here but it's like the best sandwich meat there is! Here at least! I'm sorry to hear about Ashley's friends accident and the other sad things happening right now. You really never know, do you?! It's important to be prepared though so you're ready for that time whenever it comes. Always! Feast on the scriptures and pray and go to Church and share your testimony with others.

Spain! World Cup Champs?!

Wow, I had a lot to read so I won't be writing too much today, but wow, a lot of stuff has happened it appears in one week. That's crazy! I like being informed about life outside the mission. It's weird that there even is a life outside of the mission and that everyone just keeps on keepin' on without us! j/k (Doesn't mean we don't miss you being here though Gav...)
This week was great. We were able to find Kevin's dad who came here from Peru last week. On Sunday he was shaking so badly and wanted to bare his testimony so I said, "I'll go up with you", so we both bore our testimonies. We shared ours right after Orlando shared his. Everyone in the ward had witnessed the health miracle that Orlando has had with his back so it was pretty cool. So, Kevin's dad happened to come over to his brother-in-law's house at the perfect moment. They shared their experiences with him of the gospel and really grabbed his attention. Kevin wants a better relationship with his and was afraid for us to talk to him, but instead of us asking him questions, he asked us, "what's the difference between you guys and all the rest of the church's?" I was like, well, we have the truth...no j/k, but we taught the restoration and were able to watch the video of Joseph Smith. I was thinking how excited I will be to go watch the Joseph Smith movie in Salt Lake when I get back. We should go as a family home evening. I'd like that. Anyways, his dad really liked what we talked about and found it to be really interesting. Everyone always gets super surprised when they hear our message. They hesitate until the spirit kicks them in the face, then they're like..."wow...these Yankees have something there." But anyways, we had a really great week. We had 5 in Sacrament meeting. Ibiz's husband Juan came!!! He came at the end, but I mean...he came! We introduced him to the bishop and it was awesome. I really do love that guy. He's the most sincere person. You should hear his prayers. You can tell he's just opening up his heart to God and letting out what he feels. We have some amazing investigators. If it wasn't for marriage problems we'd be dunkin' a couple of families. I'm hoping to get Ibiz and Juan married as well as German and Monica, like way quick like so I can be here for their baptism. It takes forever though because you have to take a turn and there is usually a 3 month wait. They make it so difficult that people just decide not to do it.

So, today we played soccer in an indoor field. It was a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to playing indoor when I get back. It's been pretty cold here. I like it though. We have zone conference this week so I will probably be able to meet the new mission president. Our zone is in first place doing the best out of all the zones. That's kind of cool I guess. I can't wait for Kevin to get baptized! It's gonna be so rad. He's going to be a missionary...I know it! He's so smart and as we taught his dad, he helped out more members usually do. It's going to be awesome to take him with us to teach. The Church is so true! And so perfect!!! It's crazy how true it is.

I just looked on my blog and you put Elder Garcia instead of Elder Velasquez on a pic He has a super long hair that grows out of his forehead. He's going to give it to me so I'll remember him when I leave. Haha! I love that kid! I love you guys and miss you all.

Hey Family,
That makes me way sad about the Teerlink kid. I hate when things unexpectedly happen like that. That's too bad. (Tyler Teerlink was hit on the head by a big rock while climbing with the scouts. He has a bad skull fracture and had surgery but is expected to get the use of his hand back soon.) I hope things will work out for him and his family and that he can recover. Chris White is such a stud. I'm sure his blessing made all the different. The Priesthood is real.

Cam, congrats on doing well on the MCAT! Who would have thought you'd do well on it? JK! We all did! You're a stud. Mom, I'm glad you had a great time in St. George with your friends. I hope Marvenna wasn't invited...uh oh...Cam LOVES Marvenna! (haha...I'll never tell Gav)! Sounds like Jon and Ash are doing well as are Whitney and Adam. Adam's in the Bishopric now! Wow, that's an intense calling. I'm sure he's ready to fulfill it. Dad so you're sportin' the German team! Freak, you'd be killed here! I was on divisions with Elder Garcia when the game was going down. He's from Peru but after the game, everyone was so mad that Germany beat Argentina they thought we were from Germany. Everyone kept asking us. We had to go switch back on our bikes in the Villa where our areas meet, we got there a little early, or in other words on time and were waiting for the other elders. So, after the first group of pibes asked me if I was German, I put my helmet back on and covered my 'blonde' hair. It was crazy to see the difference in Argentina when they lost compared to when they won. Soccer is their life!

German and Monica weren't able to come to church this week because of an incident we later found out about just after the game. Everyone gets so drunk and crazy. German was sitting in his doorway and his drunk neighbor started bothering him. He was saying stuff about his wife and ended up grabbing his shirt and ripping it up. German was ready for work, about to drop his kid off at his moms when this guy just starts to fight him. The guy bit German's calf, like Mike Tyson style. In defense, German had to kick him in the face and broke his nose. Anyways, long story, but I'm making it short. The guy came back later with a knife so German had to beat him up. All this happened right in front of his 6 year old little kid. It makes me so mad. German's had a crazy life, it was hard for him to hold back he was so offended. I saw his leg yesterday and it was nasty where the fool bit him. This all happened after the game, so on Sunday he couldn't come to Church and couldn't even go to work. It's so crazy how this stuff is just normal to all these people. It makes me even more grateful for where I live. We really are so blessed...more than we even realize.

This week we had some crazy spiritual lessons with Kevin who is the 18 year old nephew of German. I'm sending you a pic so you know who he is. I love the kid. He and Orlando bore their testimonies at church on Sunday. Orlando was blessed with a miracle with his back problems. He walks so good now and doesn't have the hernia in his spine. Everyone's just so weirded out because he was soooo miserable in so much pain. He's convinced that Heavenly Father blessed him as he started to go to Church and got to know us and the members. He's now going to move back to Peru on Tuesday with his family and his wife. We are sad because we wanted to baptize him, but we are really happy for him. We will pass his info onto the missionaries there so they can continue teaching him and the rest of his family.

We took out a baptismal date with Kevin for the 24th as well as an older couple, Ibiz and Juan. I'm not positive they'll make it but I know Kevin will. He's such a stud. He understands his purpose in life now. I can't wait to take him out and work with him after he is baptized. We are really blessed. I feel like we are really bringing the Spirit into our lessons now. It's crazy how the Spirit really does the teaching. It's taken me like my whole mission to grasp that fact and to learn how to use it. We have so many good things going for us in this area. So many great investigators.

Oh, before I forget, will you guys pray for German and Monica and their family? I would hate for something to happen to them. The guy lives like 3 doors down in a Peruvian Villa next to the railroad tracks in a way dark place, in a house made of material. It wouldn't be hard for someone to get in. Just keep them in your prayers for us. (Will do Gav)! Thank you!

Mom, if you send me a package, I said IF, don't feel obligated, but Reece's...a ton of them. Reece's Pieces would be rad. Peanut Butter M&M's, some skittles, (not the red pack), and yeah, whatever, don't feel obligated. Oh, and thanks for the letter you sent me. That was unexpected and I liked it. Thank you mom.

Today for P day we're going to play soccer again. Freak...I LOVE soccer. I think I've gotten a lot better than I used to be. I want to play in an indoor league when I get back.

PS...I make banana bread now. My comp showed me how and we have like a microwave slash oven thing. It's rad for making pan (bread) and I make a mean banana bread. I'm obsessed, I make it so much. We're making it and taking it to a noche de hogar (Family Night) with the Family Cardenas (Jesus's family). It's going to be a well needed one. I love that family so much.

I love you all. The Church is true! Listen to your leaders. Read your scriptures! Say your prayers...on your knees! Wow, we knelt down after a really good lesson with Kevin in his tiny tiny little room he has. We were all touching knees basically. But, he said the prayer and it was so sincere and so amazing. We were with the first counselor and he was so impressed. Even Kevin felt the Spirit overwhelmingly. Anyways, have a great week!

Wow! I'm dead tired! We played futbol for 4 hours today. I feel aged. By the 3rd hour I was just dead and lazy. I wanted to keep going but my body just wouldn't let me. I don't like that! Then we had to walk over to the cyber because my comps bike is getting fixed again. The bikes break so much. Poor kid has had to pay 200 pesos of his own to fix the bikes after being reimbursed for half. Pero q va a hacer (what are you going to do?)
This last week was awesome! Especially Sunday. We had 8 investigators in Sacrament meeting. I LOVED it! It was like crazy trying to fellowship and support each one of them. Orlando would get baptized as this is his 5th week in coming to church in a row, but he's not married. His wife is coming to be with him though when he has his back operated on so we are trying to get them married and baptized together. That would be so cool! They've been together for 10 years and have 2 kids. This week we had an awesome lady with our investigator Ibiz. We also found her husband with our mission leader. We had a really spiritual lesson. She's awesome. The husband is even better, but he doesn't feel the need to go to church which blows because he drops her off every Sunday. She fell though and broke her hand so she only comes now for Sacrament meeting. I wish he would just pop in and see what's up. We visited an investigators brother in the hospital and found him and his wife. He was shot twice. He has nails in his leg because the bullet fractured the bone. He had a thing in it kind of like Terry's leg when he that bad broken leg. His wife is awesome. Well, woman friend. I'm not sure if they're married. But, we were able to give him a blessing with his cousin who is a member. Well, recent convert. He's promised to change his life after this is all over and go to church and live a better life. It sucks when something like that has to happen to someone to make them put their priorities in order. He is a great guy though. He was actually sticking up for a friend and was shot by another friend. Some friend...Today was his surgery. We're going to visit him tomorrow night and see how he is doing. Oh guess what? Jesus' got the Aaronic Priesthood yesterday! His wife Angelica got a calling after years of not being able to have one! It was so awesome! They're so great. We have a family night with them tonight or whatever they're called.

Oh, dad...sorry I never told you Happy Father's Day. I'm a terrible son! Happy Father's Day! I felt so retarded the next day. I forgot the week before than forgot the Monday after. My bad. Oh and are you watching the World Cup??? It's not hard to tell the outcomes of the games. The people go crazy after! So, it comes down to dad's German's to see if Argentina moves on.

Well, I wanted to send pics but this computer doesn't allow me too. We're going to do divisions right now with some ward fellers. I'm so dead tired I want to be in my bed right now! P.S. that story with Chris...haha, I love that kid! He's so righteous! What a stud! Oh man, tell him to hit me up with a job at that joint of his. I've always been known to make a mean smoothie...well, snow cone, but I'm sure it's about the same.

Hey Family,
So, a lot changed this transfer. Me and Elder Holladay are staying together in El Bosque. haha. Should be great. We are working well and are seeing the blessings. Last week my comp had his second baptism of the mission and was able to baptize Jesus Cardenas. It was really cool. Jesus is an awesome guy and I really admire him and his hard work for his family as well as his desire to follow the Lord. He's a stud! Orlando, the guy that has come to Church the last four Sundays in a row, should be getting baptized soon as well. He's got such a great testimony already. As well as the family German and Monica who have 2 kids. Two little boys. They are doing the steps to be able to get married. I can't wait until they get baptized. That will be so awesome to baptize a family! Also, Kevin who is his nephew has been coming to Church. He's the one who just got here from Peru not too long ago. He already wants to be a missionary! He's had a crazy life but it's amazing how his prayers have been answered through finding the Church. We had a great Sunday meeting. I think the baptism has really helped the ward. Kevin said to me after the meeting in English..."and so...what if I want to be a missionary?!" I was like..."that would be rad...but you're going to have to be baptized first"! haha...he's awesome! We also are going to teach his little brother who hasn't come to Church yet, but he's cool. He's 14 and Kevin's 19.

Well, tonight we have an FHE with a family who's inviting another family over who were going to teach tonight. I'm excited! As well as Ibiz who's awesome. We have an appointment with her at the Bishop's house this week. We taught her this last week in a members house. She's golden! Enjoy the pics. Hope everything's going well...Congrat's to Cam and Homi! I was smiling when I read that! That's awesome...I love you guys...love me!

Elder Velasquez is coming to my zone. He will be the other District Leader with me. He's probably my favorite Latino in the mission. We're gona have fun! I'm so glad he's coming to our zone. P.S. Don't worry...I'm keeping up with the World Cup. It's impossible not to here. Esp. when Argentina is playing. We heard everyone go nuts as we were walking in the street...we....being the ONLY people in the street! Everyone else is inside glued to their TV's! I wish I could watch all the games. It's okay though...I only have to wait 4 more years to see the next one...right?

More P day activities...

Today for P day we went to the Catholic Cathedral again. We got to go up in the towers. A girl who is a member of our Church gave us a tour. She'd add in comments about it not being the true church. It was pretty cool though, except you couldn't see too far out because it's been raining way hard all day and is super foggy. Oh, and guess what...The elder's in my last area got robbed with a shotgun! I always told them not to worry that the area was super tranquilo and then they go and get robbed when I leave!

This is a pretty long email. I'm sure you'll be happy about that mom. (Yes sirree Gav! I LOVE it! I think it's a new record for you!) I'm trying to remember all the things that happened this week. It was crazy. This transfers about over and the Asay's will soon be gone. That's pretty crazy stuff. President is an amazing guy and will be missed, as well as Hna. Asay and her brownies! Well, pray that I can stay in my area, cause it's the best area and I don't want to leave!!! I'll keep you all in my prayers as well.

We had 4 in Sacrament meeting Sunday. German and Monica our investigators who also need to get married and his nephew who just got here from Peru 3 weeks ago. It's amazing that he already came to church. He loves it! He's 18 and speaks really good English. Orlando has been to Church 3 weeks in a row since we found him. He's awesome! He has that trouble with his spine so he walks with a cane like Moses. He's so awesome. We're going to take out a baptismal date with him this week. He already knows a bunch of members and that is so great. We also have a lady, Ibis who we are going to teach in a members house this week. She has come to Church twice and has completed every challenge that we've given her. We hope to also teach her husband as well. They are way cool.

Congrats on the baptism you guys had. I laughed out loud about Big D having to wear 2 jumpsuits. That's risky business. I hope it went well and not too many pictures were taken! (Daris didn't realize that they had requested him to perform the baptism and he wasn't prepared with the "proper" clothing! A great day though and fun that we are sharing some of the same experiences with Gavin. We helped with the wedding of this great family on Monday and they were able to be baptized on Friday.

Wow, this week we got Jesus Cardenas married. It was awesome!! He's waited forever to get married. Problems have always arisen to prevent it. He's known the missionaries ever since he was like 18 and now he has 6 kids and his oldest is 18! He had a lot of problems right before the marriage this time as well. Two of his daughters were hospitalized and it almost caused it to fail yet again...but it didn't They got married and now they're getting baptized this week! It's going to be awesome! I love this family so much! We help them a lot. They sew and make tons of stuff for some store. We helped them this morning finish like a billion jeans they were sewing. I do the easy stuff like put clips on them or turn them from inside out to outside in. It's fun to help them though. They're great people. They're from Peru as well. We eat Peruvian food so much it's ridiculous! I love it though. I'm going to come back with a gut!

Hey, what's up? A lot of stuff happened this week. It was pretty crazy. This week in Sunday School with our investigators we talked about sacrifice. It was such a good class. I've never learned about or had more prayers answered by the Spirit than I did this past Sunday. We read the parable in Lucas about the poor kid who asks Jesus how to get into heaven. Jesus tells him to obey the commandments, and then he answers and says, well, I've done that my whole life. So then Jesus tells him to sell all that he has and to distribute it to the poor. He gets upset about this. I love what we learn about how the gospel is more than just keeping the commandments. Sacrifices are really necessary to purify us. I've been loving the scriptures lately and getting so much more out of my gospel studies, it's awesome.

It was fun to see the pics of Adam's graduation. That's cool that he's a doctor. Good job Whit...jk. It sounds like everyone is just super busy, well from what mom has to tell me since I never hear from anyone else! jk. I wrote Cam like 3 times at the end of mom's emails...I understand how it is, but I would like to have updates on my sobrinos (niece and nephew). I miss them.

Hey Family,
This week was great! We had some really neat experiences doing service for people on the street. We were helping some older ladies. One lady locked herself out when she went in to get a broom for us to help sweep up her leaves. Her neighbor tried to help her get back in with a tool that he had so while he went in to get it, we took the time to offer up a prayer in her behalf and to teach her for a few minutes outside. When the neighbor came back, he tried to open the door with a big ole' wrench thing and it just messed up the door. Her husband was working in the Capital in Buenos Aires and wasn't going to be home until late so I stuck my key in to see if I could unlock it. Argentines use skeleton keys so you never know. Well, mine didn't work so my comp tried his key which was the same as mine and it opened up. It saved her 50 pesos and a lot of trouble. She was so happy she kept saying, "God helped you" and starting telling everyone about it. Then she let us in and fed us cake. It was sweet! While helping another lady, we talked about the Plan of Salvation not knowing that her son had passed away only 20 days ago. She was outside raking leaves trying to get her mind off of it. We haven't been able to find her though after helping her. She gave us 10 pesos but we stuck it back inside the folleto (pamphlet) and gave it back to her. So hopefully she'll read it and find the money. She was pretty sad. There are so many sad stories out here. We've got it good in the states.

Today for P Day we played soccer. It was fun. I want to play a lot when I get back. I love it! I just miss being active. Oh, also some biker that was riding behind us popped out in front of a motorcyclist. The guy slammed on his breaks and went a tumblin'. He was HUGE and way mad. I thought he was going to kill the guy. He started kicking his bike and hitting him with his gloves. The other guy was so scared, just some little Peruvian. Oh, and last Saturday there was a fight in front of our pench. It woke me up at like 5 in the morning with a bunch of pibes and cops. It was cool. Some guy got slammed against our window, well, the bars in front of the window (I think I'm happy they have bars on their windows Gav). They were drunk though and so loud. They were yelling out a lot of bad language.

Oh, and PS...Orlando came to church again. We're going to take out a baptismal fecha with him. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets baptized soon. He's just got a bad problem with his back. He has a tumor in his spine I think. He can't really walk too well, but he loves the Church and has gone ever since we found him. Well, two weeks in a row. He's a stud! Peru rocks! Mom will you send me the pics of when we were in Peru with Cam? I want to show a family who has a computer tonight. This guy is getting married on Friday and we're baptizing him this transfer. Thanks! I love you! Record the first game of the World Cup on Friday and all the USA games. Also the Argentina games and when Brazil and Portugal play...just record a bunch. I wish I could watch them. I love you guys. Enjoy the World Cup! PS are the Laker's winning the finals?

We were so very happy to be able to share this special moment with Adam, Whitney and Troy. They have worked very hard for this day. It's a team effort. Adam graduated with honors and will now begin his 30 month study in Orthodontics...and then...come back West...por favor?!

There's never a dull moment when this little man is around! Troy is full of energy and spirit. He loved his "Bumpa" right from the beginning and would proudly yell out his name every few minutes. Bumpa would then yell "Troy"! He loved it and we love him!...all 30 pounds of solid weight! Who needs an exercise class when you've got him to love!

This week was awesome! We have 2, basically 3, fecha bautismales (baptismal dates) for this transfer. We found a lady and took out a baptismal date in the first lesson. She's awesome. She cried, it was sweet. She loves the Book of Mormon. She reads it every night now. And, we are going to baptize a guy name Jesus. He's basically a member but after years of waiting, can finally get married. He's getting married on the 11th and baptized on the 19th. We also took out a fecha with this pibe named Ricky. He's been to Church a ton and plays soccer with all the jovenes (youth) and all. He just doesn't take anything serious, so we're not sure if we're going to baptize him. He's already had fechas and even had his interview, but we're going to work with him. Me and E. Ingram did intercombios this week. It was way fun, oh, and we found this guy named Orlando who has very bad back trouble from working on a boat in the sea, fishing. I'm sure it's way hard work. But, we went with a member and picked him up for church and he loved it! He even saw some of his nephews who are in members in the other ward. He said to them..."you guys never invited me but here I am"! haha. He's a stud. P.S. all these people are Peruvians. We had a way good week this last week. It's just gotten better and better by the week. This area is amazing. I love it! Accept for the bikes...we get them fixed like every day I swear. Oh, I ate it the other day. I was hanging a right at the intersection going fast and it had been raining all week. But yeah, there was some loose gravel on the road and I swung around this pothole and slid out taking a nice little spill. Luckily it was dark so I wasn't seen by too many. It was funny though. He mom, will you send me some pics from when we were in Peru and Macchu Picchu so I can show my ward since they're all Peruvians? And before I forget, yes mom, I got your package and have been really enjoying myself with it. Thank you so much. I'm pretty sure I already told you, but thanks again anyways.

So Gegs is in the Provo MTC? At least he's finally out. Too bad about his VISA. He's a stud. Hope things are going well for him. Trent Williams is weeding at our house? I love Trent Williams! Sounds like you guys are just golfing a ton. That's awesome! I'm jealous. I miss golf a lot, but I'm so happy to be here in this area. It's amazing. This transfer is flying by. We have so many investigators and are finding more and more. The people are awesome!~

P.S. Receive is a verb. So, to receive the Holy Ghost you have to do something. Like with the scriptures...if you just read them and don't apply them, they do us no good, as well as the conference talks. We can feel the Spirit as we read them or listen to them, but if we don't do anything no nos sirve...viste? (they do us no good...understand?)

Hey Family,
So this week was pretty rainy, but not too bad. It was like super foggy and way humid. Felt like wet air! I can't really explain it. It would rain at night though. We had a really good week with numbers, and that's what's important...right?! No, but we had our investigator, Yolanda from Peru tell us that she can't talk with anyone right now. She just needs to relax and take it easy for four months because of "health reasons", or something gay. She cried when she told us. There's something fishy going on and we need to figure it out. We have a couple of family's we're working with that are in the process of getting married. We want to baptize them way bad. We have had some great references that we have started teaching that are way cool. So do that for the missionaries...instead of praying for the missionaries to find people to teach...pray so that you can find someone to have the missionaries teach. That's a lot more sincere and way more help!

I did intercombios with my district with elder Theuson. He met Jill in the MTC and talks about her more than I do. It was pretty fun. I went out to Ensenada. We had a really good day. Their area reminds me of the Coast. A lot of old people and pretty tranquilo. This week we'll be doing intercombios with the zone leaders and hopefully I'll get to be with Elder Ingram again. That would be fun. He was my MTC comp. He's a stud. So funny, I love the kid!

Today we went to a huge Catholic Cathedral. It was way rad because it was so different than what I'm used to. It was so big too! I've never seen people pray to Saints and get all emotional over statues and stuff. Definitely an experience.

This week was awesome. We really had a great week. Our ward is amazing! It's like a real ward, with real people, real members. I can't explain it. It's just so different than any other area I've been in. There are only like 12 Argentines and a billion Peruvians. We have lunch every single day and we eat so much because the food is so good. They give us so much to eat. If I die (finish the mission) in this area, I'll come back home like 50 pounds heavier, I swear. (You could use a little more weight Gav.) Especially being winter here now and all. But, we have bikes which is rad. We get around really fast and quick like. Viste? (understand?)

This week we took out a fecha (baptismal date) with a way old Peruvian lady who didn't come to church, danget. But, we have a lot of investigators here and were able to find even more this week. I love the villa's here. They're like tall skinny pathway, windy city villas. It's just like way rad. It's hard to walk in there with my bike though cause the handle bars are so big. I've got the handle bars that are like a motorcycle. It's way comfy though. I like it. My legs have been burning from riding the bikes though. I feel like I haven't ridden a bike for like 2 years...oh wait...probably because I haven't! Oh, and mom, if you send a package, we always love Rice Crispy Treats and Peanut Butter M&M's. (Keep your eyes open for the mailman Gav!)

La Plata here is way nice. It's hard to get used to. People are kind of just doing their own thing. I'm still not used to it, but I think I'm adjusting just fine. My comp is cool. We're staying positive and keeping good attitudes. An investigator that we found this week, Christopher se llama, really made me think because of the super deep questions he was asking me. No one has asked me questions like this before. He asked about doing things in fear of God or doing them because we love God and love to serve Him. I think it plays it's part in 'clean hands and pure heart.' I think it means that when we learn to love God, we have a great desire to serve Him. Not out of fear, but out of love. He asked some other crazy deep ones about pre earth life, mostly all having to with Satan. He's crazy, but he's cool. But anyways, yeah things are going good here. I love you all...go to Church, make sure Laynie and Troy don't grow up until I get home.

First of all, Happy Mother's Day mom! Wow! I'm retarded...I didn't even say that once and we talked via SKYPE! I'm sorry, but hope you had a great mother's day...(No worries Gav...your call made the day PERFECT)! So, I'm in La Plata. My area is El Bosque with Elder Holladay from Pennsylvania. Our area includes the Stadiums of Estudiantes and Gymnasia, the two soccer teams that are huge rivals here. It's pretty rad! I've always wanted to go to La Plata so I could say that I was from Estudiantes. I've had the jersey for like a year but now I can rep it with pride! We have bikes! But my pedal is broken so it's in getting fixed. I'm excited for bikes. I've never had an area with bikes. Our area is pretty nice. We have villa here but it's like nicer parts of some of my other areas. It's way safe so no worries. And, I guess there are a ton of Peruvians that cook us food. We have lunches every single day. That's so crazy! I've never had that! But, I haven't met any members yet. I didn't have time to write yesterday because we got back late and had to go to a cita. It felt so weird...we taught at like a table with an educated couple. I don't know how to explain it but it was just weird. It's got a different "ondo" (I'm thinking that means feeling) over here. It'll take some time to get used to.

So anyway, back to the phone call...So you heard me right, when I asked if we were going on a family vacation when I get back? That would be fun. It was really nice talking to you guys. It made me realize how much I actually really do miss you all. Especially Troy and Laynie. I wanted to hold Laynie upside down like Cam was and dance with her and stuff. I can't wait to be able to do that. I hope they don't grow up too much in the next 4 months. Hopefully I'll have some more "sobrinos" (nieces and nephews) and will be able to be a part of their first two years. but anyways, oh yeah, if you're going to send me a package, my comp just got a package with a bunch of great stuff and I don't think he's into sharing. I've already dropped way too many hints and he's not responding, haha...but yeah, okay beef jerky would rock. Reece's like the egg ones from Easter. I don't know why, but they're so much better, like those tree ones you sent me for Christmas...way good...sour patch kids. The watermelon ones too. I dunno if you send something, just surprise me.

Guess what? Elder Ingram is my Zone Leader. That'll be fun. I have hermanas in my district again! And Elder Thuesen and his nuevito (new missionary) that he's picking up right now. He came in when I trained E. Harris. Harris is training too. He's in La Plata as well but in another zone. I'm in Villa Elvira or something like that. There are 3 zones here in La Plata. Lucky break for me! Calling cards did not work! We were lucky that a good member in Gavin's branch had a computer and a Skype account! Elder Rice is alive and well and his mama is very happy!

Some things that I especially loved about talking with Gavin was the growth of his testimony. He shared with us how much the gospel means to him in his life. That he really never "got it" before! He has loved seeing the changes in peoples lives as they have come to accept the gospel. He said it is something very real and powerful. He plans on making good changes in his 'post mission' life and never wants to take his membership in the Church for granted!

My sister in law, Brenda Dudley was asked to head up the service project for women's conference this year making infant baby blankets. It was fun to be together with many of the 'Rice' girls having fun while giving service. Hope to make it a great tradition with my own girls as well someday.

Hi,
This week was great! We baptized two. We baptized Luz and Maria. The Branch President baptized Luz and my comp baptized Maria. I'm so happy to be baptizing Beatriz next week...she's already interviewed and ready to go. We've been working hard with her the last two transfers. Her mom should be getting baptized with her but we haven't been able to talk to her because she's always at the hospital with her son who got robbed and stabbed. So, hopefully, she'll be motivated to get baptized with her daughter Beatriz. She's 23 and has a kid. He's not old enough to get baptized. Oh jeez, and Tomasa...(she was in the fotos I sent home with a little grey line going down the front) came to Church yesterday. She's awesome! Amazing! She answers all the questions and stuff. At the baptism there were a lot of people. Most of them were investigators and non members. There were like only 3 members. Freaken branch! But anyways, the Pres. did a little class thing because of all the new people and Tomasa answered like all the questions! She's golden! She has 6 kids and is separated. She can't go to Church when her husband comes over though because he's a drunk and hits her. I hate how guys treat girls here. It's terrible! But she will be getting baptized next transfer. We should also be baptizing the Presidents sister in law as well as her daughter. Her daughter already wants to get baptized. She asked when she has to take out a "turn"... classic Argentine lingo! They always have to "sacar un turno" for things. But anyways, transfers are next week. I'm 99 percent sure I'm staying. I'm kind of hoping to receive un compadre (companion) from the states. Q no sea banana (not sure what that means). We'll see what all goes down. The World Cup starts in 5 weeks. That's too bad the Jazz lost to the Lakers. It's okay...I like their chances. Stupid Lakers always crush our dreams. But D Will is a machine and he'll get it done. He's way under rated.

But, I can't wait to talk with you guys next week. P.S. the story about dad and the short cut made me laugh. That was funny. Tell me more funny stories. Well, I miss you guys and hope things are going well. Tell Gegs to write me before he leaves. (I told him that his friend Gegs was sitting at our table eating breakfast this morning...Gegs leaves for Brazil next week)! I won't see him for 4 years. Ha! Enjoy the pics. Latinos struggle when it comes to taking pictures. Much love in the yum (apparently this note is full of his new slang terminology)! Oh, and PS what's this about me being too skinny...I was skinnier before the mission. I eat like there's no tomorrow...you guys eat! (I think he looks pretty skinny so I told him to eat!)

Oh, and I almost forgot about the phone call...we don't have it figured out yet because we're a threesome. We have to all use the phone in the chapel but I think it'll be like 5ish our time por ahi...? (for over there?...) I'm sorry just be home and I'll call. When another elder used his phone card from this phone his phone card wouldn't work so you might have to call me. I'll find out the number to the chapel and see what I can do it get it to you or something. But just plan on me calling in the early afternoon your time. You're missionaries though...you'll be busy! (Not too busy for my phone call Gavin! I wouldn't miss it!) hmmm if it doesn't work out...there's always next year right? (WRONG Gavin...this is my last Argentine Mother's Day phone call! You better do it!!!)

What's not to love about these pics?!

Yes, I got the package you sent me. I had to pay 147 mangos for the box package but nothing for the express mail envelope. But, it's all worth it. I love things from the States oh and the pics and letters from home. I got the credit card so you can activate it. That would be nice because I'm going to need personal money. Money doesn't go far without having lunches with members and the traveling we have to do in and out of Varela and washing the clothes out here each week. An Elder is going to stop by to visit you and bring you a letter. (YAY...I love letters)! He's a stud. He made me laugh so hard, so now we have a missionary from Solano. He was in the Coast with me. He's been way sick so we've been working in a little trio every little bit. It's fun working in trios. We both teach so I don't have to give the whole lesson.

Today for P Day my comp had to do his documents so I had to sit in the offices all day. Kind of lame, but I finally got my 'trunky papers' turned in so the office elders were happy about that! We had to wake up at 5 to be there at 8 and didn't finish until like 2 so it was a long day. Not to mention that we've been without water again. I have bad luck with water in this country! (No me gusta Gav!)

But good news...we're baptizing Maria and Luz this Saturday. It's gona be sweet! Angela and Beatriz were going to get baptized but Angela's son got stabbed so she's been with him in the hospital making it hard to be able to see her very much. (No me gusta eso tambien Gavin! Stay safe por favor)! We're going to have to push her fecha back which is a bummer. But, her son is doing pretty well. They'll find out today if they have to operate because I guess his lungs are full of blood. Poor guy! This last week was kinda crazy. I'll be excited to baptize this week. Your lives sound busy and complicated. Hope you're all happy. Tell Greg congrats on the wedding and thanks to Vicki and Dawn for writing me dear elders. Thanks for your letters mom and dad. They were great! I like being updated on everyone. I really enjoyed reading the talk you gave at your cousins funeral. It was super good. I'll help you out with your Spanish if you write up my papers for me in school. Deal? Deal!

An actual letter in the mail...

I have basically given up on racing to catch the mailman for letters from Argentina. I live for my Monday emails each week instead. Only this week, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a hand written letter in the mail. All in Spanish mind you, but that's okay. He said he did that to help me and Big D with our language skills for our inner city missionary experience. There's just something about snail mail that does a mother good. English or Spanish, I'll take what I get because Gavin seems to write a little more of his deep personal thoughts on paper than hurriedly typing out his weekly email in the cyber. He always puts a smile on my face. To quote some things he misses from home:

1. His niece and nephew. He's hoping that there will be at least 4 by the time he gets home. (Don't think that will happen since he'll be home now in 5 short (long) months!
2. He misses my chicken rolls, tacos, burritos, roast beef, broccoli, chicken and rice and the 'drink fridge' that was open to any and all who came to visit.
3. He misses his family and wants me to promise him that we will do all we can to keep our family together, obeying the commandments so that we can be worthy temple recommend holders and a forever family.

The things I enjoyed in this letter were his testimony of the Gospel. How he loves the Church. That even though he's in a different country, it's still the same. He misses the good members of our home ward. He says that it's sometimes hard to be away from his family and all those he loves, and yet, it "vales la pena". (It's so worth it) He hopes that his service has been recognized by the Lord and has been a blessing to his entire family. (I assure you Gavin that that is the case! We thank you for serving with your whole heart, mind and soul)! He is so grateful for his knowledge of the Gospel. He has a strong testimony of missionary work. He told Daris and I to wear our missionary plaques with pride! That we are true representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. (We do proudly wear our badges and hope to be a force for good with our new people in the inner city mission)!

Gavin's final quote in his letter was, "YOU GUYS ROCK"! Well, we think that you Gavin, are dabomb.com!

Gavin didn't want to risk getting a virus on his camera today so once again, no pics! Makes for another long week for me! Oh well, what's a mother to do. Here is his latest update and answers to my many questions :)

Alright, so yes, I got my "trunky papers" mom. And all they just ask is if I want to leave on a special date and if I want to travel by bus or plane. I'm still strugglin' with that decision. I was hopin' I could come home riding a horse...and they also just have directions and stuff to make sure everything is correct. Nothing too great. I don't know what friends you are talking about living with, but I don't want to think about living with other people and all that jazz until I get home. I kind of want to save money. Viste'? (understand?) (Yes, I get it Gav!)

Mother's Day, yes, I will be calling but I don't know what time yet. I'll let you know when it's closer. It's still far away. (Not that far away! Yay!)

Yes, I was way sick for 2 days and just kinda sick for a week. (No me gusta)

The people we're baptizing are the family that threw the surprise bash for me. But it's just their kids because the parents aren't married yet. The other people getting baptized are Angela and her daughter Beatriz. Some people I really, really, really want to baptize we've really been working with them and are really hoping that they "llegar". They're way cool. She's like your age mom and her daughter is like 20 something. Okay, so I answered all the questions (muchas gracias mi hijo) now I can tell you happy anniversary !! That's a long time (31 years) Congrats! Sometimes the mission feels like a long time but it's just two years. 31 years is a very long time. Felizidades!

This week was pretty good. We found some pretty good investigators, but they also have tons of marriage problems and all that jazz. It's so hard to find some one married who lives with his other married partner. Freak! It's frustrating! But her name is Eli and she has read a ton of the Book of Mormon as well as Tomasa who we found who has a ton of kids and is separated from her husband. She used to live in Jill's area in Hurlinghan, and the missionaries helped her build her house. I've built like 3 or 4 house on the mission. I think when I get back I'll just build one in the backyard in the corner by the fence. I just need wood, chapa, nails and a hammer. haha, (I'm down with that Gav, you built a pretty nice one in the backyard of our old house in South Mountain. Guess that prepared you for your mission!) But, it sounds like there are a lot of good things going on with the family. This pleases me. Can't wait to talk with you all come Mother's Day. Happy anniversary again! Love you all,

Gavin didn't have time once again to send pics but here is his latest email:

Hey family

Yeah I didn't write yesterday. I heard mom got scared. I almost died.. (not funny Gav haha) no kidding we just changed our p day to today so we could go to capital as a zone and hit up the zoo. It was pretty sick. Outside looking in was pretty great. I'm sure the animals there are big and fun to look at, but thanks to the rain it was closed. So we hit up some museum of Evita. It was much fun. (I think that sounds Spanish Gav) we ended up just coming back to our mission. Ha. and went bowling and ate McDonalds. Sounds lame, but you're not out in the boonies on a mission, so it was fun. Last week I got way sick from zone conference. The meat I ate was nasty. It was like some square meatloaf sort of deal. I only ate like two squigs but still it tore me to pieces. I had diarhrea and was throwin up a full (sorry about the graphic details). Wanna hear something funny and kinda gross? I got up to go to the bathroom and fainted and woke up only by throwing up all over. (Not funny Gav) I was kind of miserable. Luckily I was by myself, my comp was out with a member. I kept calling Hna Asay. She´s so nice. (Thank you Hermana) oh and for my birthday last week some investigators threw me a surprise bash with all her neighbors and friends. It was pretty cool actually my first ´´surprise´´ party thing I've ever had. (Muchas gracias you wonderful Argentine people) and I only knew like 4 people. (Lot's more investigators!) They made me a cake though so it was cool. The guy next to me is blasting Toxic by Britney Spears. haha. Anyways, but yeah I´m good now. I weighed myself last Saturday and I weigh 60 kilos o sea (in other words) 132 pounds. Funny huh. (Again, not funny Gav...eat more bread and chocolate) Oh we built a house. We helped our 2nd counselor build a house cause he had to move out of his rental with his wife and had no where to go. I feel bad for him and his newly wed wife and baby. But hey they´re happy. I couldn't live like these people. (They are amazing and wonderful people) I give them a lot of props. We should have 4 baptisms on the first, but as for now nothing in between. It's starting to get cooler which is nice. I´m so sick of the heat. I heard the Masters was great. Venna cried. (Who told you that?) haha q nena. Phil´s a stud. (Yes he is) did people yell at Tiger a lot? I can´t believe he´s showin his face. Well you're all in my prayers. Put me in yours. (Always and forever Gav) I love you
